What mastery looks like

  • Shows satisfaction or seeks acknowledgment when completing a task or solving a problem.
  • Shares own ideas or beliefs in a group or with others, with or without prompting.
  • Uses positive words to describe self, such as "kind" or "hard worker".

How to observe it

  • When the child finishes something hard, do they show pride or want it noticed?
  • In group time, does the child offer their own ideas?
  • Can the child name something they are good at or proud of?

Accessibility

  • Notice effort and specific actions, not just results, so every child can feel competent.
  • Offer photos, drawings, or AAC so all children can share an accomplishment or idea.
