About Early Atlas
Early Atlas is a free, openly built library of early-childhood learning — skills, activities, and printable worksheets for the people who spend their days with young children, from birth through the early school years.
What Early Atlas is
It is a map of what young children are learning to do, and simple, real ways to support them. Every skill comes with plain-language guidance, hands-on activities, and — where it helps — printable practice pages. It is written for parents, caregivers, home educators, and early-childhood teachers alike. You do not need a degree, an account, or a subscription to use it.
What we believe
- Children learn through play and everyday moments. Sorting laundry, naming what you see on a walk, and counting steps are real learning.
- Every child develops at their own pace. Ages here are gentle guides, not finish lines. We describe what to look for, not a test to pass.
- Good early learning should be free. The whole library is public and open, so a great activity is never behind a paywall.
- Observation beats pressure. We help you notice and encourage, rather than drill or rank.
How it's organized
Learning is grouped into broad domains (such as Language or Mathematics). Each domain holds skills — the specific things a child is learning to do, like “Sorts objects by color.” Under each skill you'll find activities to try and worksheets to print. You can browse this map or search it by a child's age, a stage, or a keyword.
Many approaches, no dogma
Families and teachers draw on many respected traditions — Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, play-based learning, and more. Early Atlas borrows the best ideas from each and labels which approach inspired a lesson, so you can lean toward the styles that fit your child. We don't insist on a single “right” way to teach a two-year-old.
Open and evidence-based
Developmental guidance here is grounded in widely used frameworks and research, and lessons cite their sources so you can check them. The content is structured and version-controlled like an open-source project, which keeps it consistent, reviewable, and improvable over time.
Independence
Early Atlas is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by any of the educational organizations whose approaches inspire our lessons. Our materials are original works inspired by those traditions — not official curricula — and all trademarks and names belong to their respective owners. Early Atlas is a learning resource, not medical or developmental advice; if you have concerns about a child's development, talk with a qualified professional.
