  • A mirror

Steps

  • Sing a short hello song, naming each child in turn.
  • Pause on each name and invite the child to respond by looking or coming.
  • Hold the mirror and point out a feature, for example "you have curly hair."
  • Show each child their photo and name them warmly.
  • Notice similarities and differences kindly, for example "you both have brown eyes."

Variations

  • Add a puppet that "looks for" each child by name.
  • Let children find their own photo in a small basket.

Differentiation

  • For younger children, focus on their own name and face.
  • For older toddlers, ask them to name a feature of themselves.

Accessibility

  • Pair each name with eye contact, a gentle touch, or a sign.
  • Use clear, high-contrast photos for children with vision differences.

Safety

  • Use a shatterproof mirror and store photos out of mouthing reach.
