Materials

  • A light scarf or small blanket (optional)
  • Just your hands and face

Steps

  • Cover your face with your hands or a scarf and pause.
  • Reveal your face with a warm "Peekaboo!" and watch the child's reaction.
  • Pause and wait expectantly for the child to take a turn — a smile, sound, or pull of the scarf.
  • Respond to whatever they offer as a real turn, then go again.
  • Let the child lead by hiding their own face or starting the game.

Variations

  • Hide a toy under the scarf and reveal it together.
  • Play with a sibling or another child to widen the circle.

Differentiation

  • For young infants, keep the rhythm slow and exaggerate your expressions.
  • For older toddlers, add words, "Where did I go? Here I am!"

Accessibility

  • Build the game around any signal the child gives, including eye gaze or body movement.
  • Use touch and sound cues for children with vision differences.

Safety

  • Keep scarves light and never cover the child's face.
