Materials

  • Open floor space
  • Optional simple props such as scarves or shakers

Steps

  • Start a simple repeatable action, such as clapping or stomping.
  • Invite the children to copy you, naming what you are doing.
  • Let one child become the leader and encourage the others to imitate them.
  • Cheer each child's turn and the group's copying.
  • Keep actions big, slow, and easy to follow.

Variations

  • Add scarves to wave or shakers to shake for imitation.
  • Pair the game with a familiar song so the actions repeat naturally.

Differentiation

  • For younger toddlers, keep to one action at a time.
  • For older toddlers, chain two actions together to copy in sequence.

Accessibility

  • Offer seated versions of actions (clap, wave) for children who are not yet mobile.
  • Pair each action with a clear verbal label for children who learn through hearing.

Safety

  • Keep the space clear of obstacles and supervise active movement.
